Things

Pleasingly, How to Make a Chinese or Japanese Book Cover has been re-posted over at Sociological Images, with lots of discussion in the comments section. If you're interested, pop over. If you're just here for the book covers, here are two which struck me this morning, one very good and one very bad. See if you can guess which is which.

The first one is clearly brilliant. I hope the poems within are of equal standard.

I love the first one, it complements the title so well! Not so fond of placing the type over a high contrast area, but yeah, love th collage.

Bah! I love the second one. What fabulous design! I love the retro-80's-flashdance-stripper-half-shirt look.

Get me the number for that cover designer! I need it for when I release my new book next year, "Stripper-Pole through Dracula's Heart"

Is the strippers head photoshopped on? That's pretty terrible. The first one is amazing though. There's still good book design out there!

Vampire stripper looks like twilight for boys. Now I don't have to be embarrassed when reading on the train.

Big macho guy: "You reading a vampire book? I thought they was only for little girls! Haha, you girly man!"
Me: "Yes, I am reading a vampire book, but in this book the vampire is a hot female stripper."
Big macho guy: (stares at me in awe, my manliness rendering him dumb as I flash him the cover).
