(Typed laboriously while trying to wrangle an 11-day-old baby, so please excuse any typos...)

Last week I was interviewed on the IEEE Techwise Conversations podcast, talking about Whiskey Priest Books and the practicalities how to be a not-very-rich publisher of lost classics. Another chap on the program has published nearly 1,000,000 books, and makes rather more money--but at what cost?!!

Whisky Priest Books discussed:

So if you'd like to enjoy my honeyed tones, listen here or there.

Not that it wasn't a very fine, informative interview - and that it wasn't nice to put a voice to a name - but I found news of the new arrival distracting.

Congratulations, sir. Well done.

And to the little one: Growing up in the house of an "idiosyncratic Australian book publisher" is sure to be an adventure. Expect wonderful things.

Agreed, nice to put a voice to a name. My head is spinning from what Parker was talking about.

thanks, all--brian, if she's not a reader, i will be giving my wife some suspicious looks.

anon, i agree--and i still can't work out what a webster's serbian thesaurus edition of a book actually IS.

I think it was a English/Slovak dictionary and a Turkish thesaurus...I looked a bit more into his projects and they are actually interesting...automating weather reports in obscure languages for locals who have always had to depend on colonial language broadcasts. It just seemed so alien the first time I listened to him speak.

There's definitely potential there for amazing things. I'm slightly alarmed by the idea of educational material for kids being created without human oversight--what happens if there's a glitch? What sort of mad nonsense would they be taught?

Congratulations on both the baby & the interview! Hope you're enjoying fatherhood so far.

A couple more interviews/profiles like that you'll be able to become a real tycoon of the publishing industry. Although 'Whisky Priest & Son/Daughter' sounds sorta wrong...

Thanks, jb: the odd screaming fit aside (from her, not me), it's been pretty good! Perhaps she could have her own imprint. Whiskey Nun?
