More Margot Neville

About six months ago, I wrote briefly about two of my father's great-aunts, the sisters Ann "Nev" Neville Goyder Joske and Margot Goyder, who wrote crime fiction together as ‘Margot Neville'. Over the weekend, while cleaning out a room full of boxes of books, I came across two more of their books, and so thought I'd put the covers up here, since they don't seem to exist anywhere else on the net. They're both Fontana paperbacks, from that publishers pulp painting era, before they decided the solution to every cover was to slap a nude on it.

From 1957...

..and from 1961...

Oooh! I love old pulp covers. The first one is obviously better. The tiger-lily swimsuits are a nice touch.

These are obviously out of print, right? Wouldn't it be neat to put together a "Margot Neville" collection? It would be relatively easy to do with OCR software and a good scanner. I would do it if I had anyone in my family that wrote. That would be worth doing-- your family might get a nice kick out of that.

That's not a bad idea at all. It's even probable that someone in the family inherited the copyrights, so a nicely designed omnibus or two could be made available through POD.

You have inspired me!

Both covers are lovely - disappointing only when compared to the wonderful covers found in your first Margot Neville post. Encouraged to take a second look, I note with pride that the copy of My Bad Boy was once part of the library system of my adopted province.

The idea of a Margot Neville omnibus is an excellent one - with an Introduction by yourself, I hope. You have at least one Ontario customer.

If you sent out the word through the multitude of pulp/noir sites on the web(and if you ship to the United States and Europe), I think you could turn a profit on a Margot Neville Omnibus.

I'm so glad I read the comments – it's exciting that suddenly you're (hopefully) putting together a collection. Can you please post about the process as it goes along? Including tedious details like who you have print it, if and when it gets that far? But it sounds like it'll all make for a really interesting project – everything from tracking down the rights on. I'll be interested, anyway.

Oh! I'm excited about this project. Let me know if you find out about the copyrights. I own a little publishing company. This would be a neat project to publish.

I'm investigating the copyright situation now. More news as it comes! Christy, once I find out what the story is, I'll be in touch! Thanks for the idea--I'm all jazzed up about this.

Perhaps Tutis could publish it if Ms. Pinheiro can't.

A picture of a whale, or the Taj Mahal, or a hobbit would be nice for the cover

Why limit ourselves to just the one? A hobbit riding a whale as it leaps over the Taj Mahal sounds like a cover that would sell.

No, the Tutis cover would feature Margot Fonteyn (copyright be damned!) and Neville Chamberlain leaping over an omnibus.

Photoshop here I come!

Now that's genius.
