Running the Risk of Turning One's Blog into a Freakshow

Some books surely cannot live up to the promise of their covers. Nor, in some cases, would you even begin to want them to...

I dare not post more in case I break your brain.

  1. LOL ... some of them are just plain weird. But A BEAR IS EATING ME designed to look like a national park sign is quite clever.

  2. Concerning Shatner Quake, I can't help but notice that William Shatner's name is larger that author Jeff Burk.

I note, also, that the publisher, Eraserhead Press, describes itself as 'an independent publisher of Bizarro fiction'. This, I think, explains the rendering of what appears to be a Bizarro World version of my fellow Montrealer

  3. Wow. What has happened to this often classy blog (not that I'm complaining; I live for intriguing trash)? You are finding some serious dross and drek and drivel out there. The Shatner one, in particular, really bugs me because it's such a terrible portrait of him.

I'm working on the cover for the From the Ashes book and boy, I'd better do it well. I'd hate to end up on one of these Dishonor Rolls.

  4. I do seem to have hit a run of bizarre covers recently. I'll attempt to raise the tone soon.

  5. That LARD one will get into my dreams now, oh no!... Mind you, I will not be as inquisitive as to ask WHERE or HOW did you come across it :) Let's say it came across you and leave it at that...

  6. Oh my gosh I laughed so hard at the oceans of lard cover. Not at the cover so much as the blurb above it. Choose from your own endings "n' shit"

It's a white trash Choose Your Own Adventure book.

And I was thinking about the shatner cover, too. It doesn't even look like him. N' shit.

  7. Shatner Quake could easily become slang for diarrhoea

The oceans of lard cover just made my brain deflate with a little farting noise. Where do you find books like that? I think we should boycott borders until they start to stock quality books like Oceans of lard.

Word verification is perporgu, which again seems like an appropiate title for a book to be shown here with a lurid cover. It would be the story of JRSM and his erotic adventures with the Queen's corgis, especially Perporgu, the young bitch with saucy moves who is the forbidden fruit of the corgi world. The book would be compared rather unfavourably with Lolita
