Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahk!

I think we're all agreed that film tie-in versions of novels are usually ugly things. Here's one that won't change your mind.

Get it away from me!

  4. And this isn't some third-world publisher. This is Random House, for goodness' sakes.

  5. Is it Liza? Probably, not, hunh?

This cover reminds me so much of the campy latino tele-novelas. Like some girl is going to pop out and say, "I'm pregnant!"

  6. It would appear to be someone rejoicing in the name of Shannyn Sossamon, who went on to play 'Pink Hair Girl' in another film--possibly not a significant role.

  7. As I recall, the novel is told through the eyes of multiple characters - not a character with multiple personalities, as the cover seems to imply.

I add that the Gore Vidal quote - 'A wonderfully comic novel' - is very much at odds with the illustration.

  8. That made me say "ew" out loud, not a common occurrence..

  9. While I'd agree that this isn't a good book cover, Eric White, the artist responsible for the image, is generally quite good.

  10. It's more the fact that this swastika of floating B-actor heads was deemed a good book cover than a problem with the artist, who, Bob's correct, is actually very good, and has quite a line in disquieting artwork.

  11. am so jealous of whomever got to design this. Unrecognizable, but so, so vivid caricatures? 90's color scheme? dozens of floating heads assemble vaguely in the shape of a swastika? what is going on here

oh yeah, and an endorsing blurb from Gore Vidal.
