I knew I could count on you. I came across this duplicate cover just today and thought to myself, where can I post this? I've known trade publishers to do this sort of thing, and I don't know why I'm surprised to see it in an academic press (they probably do it more), but try these:
Ah, nicely spotted! I'll post these (with credit to you) today! I suspect you might be right about academic presses--they probably have smaller design budgets and so a bigger reliance on stock images that might already be in use elsewhere.
At least the designers each did something different with the image.
